  • Used cars maintain speedy sales – taking only 25 days on average to leave forecourts so far this April.

London, 17th April 2025Auto Trader, the UK’s largest automotive marketplace, reports that 2025 is seeing the fastest turnover of used cars for April on record, selling six days faster than April 20216. Only lingering on forecourts for an average of 25 days so far this month, used car sales are maintaining rapid speed as we end the first quarter of the year.

Overall, trends have shown that used cars aged 5-10 years old have been consistently the fastest selling age bracket over the past 12 months, this month selling in just 23 days. Interestingly, also this month we have seen cars aged 3-5 years old accelerate to match their older counterparts, also selling on average in 23 days.

Hybrids heat up

Dominating the fastest selling list, six in 10 of the hottest used cars this month are hybrids. Leading the pack, the petrol hybrid Mercedes-Benz GLA  is in pole position, selling in just 6.5 days on average. The Vauxhall Grandland has dropped to second place from last month, despite selling half a day faster this month - in seven days on average during April, vs. 7.5 days in March 2025.

Across all makes and models, full/mild hybrid vehicles are matching petrol as the fastest selling fuel type in the UK, taking an average of 24 days to sell. This is the fastest month on record so far for full/mild hybrids since 20217, and when it comes to average prices of hybrids8 they have decreased by 11.5% from £28,352 in March 2024 to £25,260 in March 2025. At a whole market level, this March the average vehicle price was £16,915, a 1.30% increase from March 2024 which had an average vehicle cost of £16,695.

With strong demand demonstrated by this speed of sale data, it’s vital to remember that price isn’t the only lever available to help secure sales. Pricing strategy should be aligned with market data available on Auto Trader so you can be sure you’re maximising profit potential on every vehicle. Improving advert quality could be a better way to sell your stock quickly without losing profit, so consider checking your Auto Trader Performance Rating first.

Consumers are clearly finding hybrid cars an attractive prospect. Despite upfront cost barriers, it’s encouraging to see people are increasingly considering alternatively fuelled vehicles. With a wide variety of excellent cars available at a variety of prices, as seen in our top 10, we could expect more drivers to convert, especially with the influence of recent changes to the ZEV mandate.
