Autotrader evolves Price Indicator to help retailers build trust and drive value-led conversations

  • Updates to help retailers show what sits behind a vehicle’s price – moving buyer conversations beyond headline cost and towards overall value.
  • Retailers will be able to add more context to their adverts, helping buyers better understand the value behind each vehicle’s price.
  • New Key Selling Points and Price Commentary features will allow retailers to highlight vehicle-specific attributes and wider dealership benefits.

Autotrader, the UK’s largest automotive marketplace, is evolving Price Indicator on its platform to enable retailers to add clearer price and value context to their adverts. With the rollout starting from 29th September, the changes will help retailers build trust upfront, support more informed enquiries and showcase more of their own value to the millions of daily visitors to Autotrader.

Designed in response to feedback from retailers, including input from Autotrader’s Customer Advisory Group, as well as car buyer research, the changes will allow its partners to highlight more of what sits behind the price. This includes vehicle-specific details such as specification and mileage, alongside wider dealership benefits such as warranties, aftersales support, OEM-approved benefits and preparation standards.

Price Indicator plays a vital role in the trust and transparency that attracts millions of engaged car buyers to Autotrader and its partners’ stock. By adding clearer retailer-led context to this trusted market view, the evolution is designed to help buyers understand not just how a vehicle compares on price, but what sits behind that price — building confidence earlier, supporting more informed enquiries and helping retailers move conversations towards overall value.

The changes include:

  • New visual design and pricing panel: Autotrader is replacing the dial symbol with a new label and pricing panel, designed to give buyers clearer context around how a vehicle’s price compares with the wider market.
  • Key Selling Points: Retailers can add up to three standalone points to each advert, helping them highlight what makes an individual vehicle stand out, such as full-service history, rare factory options, recent preparation work or low mileage.
  • Price Commentary: A dedicated new content section, located directly alongside the Price Indicator label, gives retailers space to explain the additional value included in the price, such as OEM-approved benefits, extended warranties, preparation standards, aftersales support or wider dealership services.

Together, the new features give retailers greater flexibility in how they present value to buyers, whether that is by highlighting the attributes that make a specific vehicle stand out, or by applying consistent commentary on the standards, services and reassurance offered by their business. This gives retailers greater opportunity to differentiate their stock and business in a competitive market, better evidence the value they build into each vehicle and support more constructive conversations around price, while preserving the clear market view buyers expect from Price Indicator.

Price Commentary can be templated through Autotrader Portal accounts, enabling retailers to apply consistent messaging across relevant stock with minimal additional workload, while still allowing it to be tailored at vehicle level where needed. Key Selling Points and vehicle-level Price Commentary will also be available through Autotrader’s AT Connect API, allowing retailers using third-party stock-management systems to edit these features at vehicle level, where supported by their provider. Price Commentary templates are available now in Portal, giving retailers time to prepare ahead of the rollout, which starts from 29th September.

Price Indicator is a powerful tool that helps bring millions of high-intent car buyers to Autotrader and, ultimately, to our partners’ stock by providing the transparent, trusted market context they expect. Retailers have told us they want the confidence of that data-led pricing paired with more flexibility to reflect the nuance of each vehicle.
